Question about building our own battery pack out of LiFePO4 cells

Good morning.

Is it possible for us to build (assemble) our own battery pack—for instance, using LiFePO4 cells—tailored to our specific individual needs? Or must we use a pre-made, certified battery? If we can build one, what types of cells are permitted for this purpose? Are LiFePO4 cells the only option, or are other types allowed? My understanding is that the regulations prohibit the use of Li-ion cells—is that correct?
